Prerequisites
- You must have at least an honours degree, or equivalent, in a subject other than computer science - this course is not intended for CS or IS graduates. Note that your prior degree need not be in a scientific discipline. Students with more than one year of computer science education will have their applications reviewed on an individual basis. We will also consider applicants whose degrees/credits in CS/IS are no longer current - this will be assessed stricly on a case-by-case basis.
- You will need access to a computer and Internet connection.
- You will need to be able to attend UCT at the end of each semester for examination purposes. This is not a distance education course and will not be administered as such.
- You will need to be able to commit to two years study.
Tuition Fees
For 2012, the fees were R 16,880 for each half-year course. If both half-year courses were taken in the first year, the total fees were about R 33,760. For second year students registered for the whole-year research/dissertation course (CSC5004W), the fees were R 17,090. Fees can be expected to increase by approximately 10% in 2013.
Please note that if you are an international student from a non-SADC country then there is an additional international fee to be paid over and above the course fee. This fee, known as the International Term Fee, was R 22,500 in 2012. Updated fee information can be found on the Fees Website. If you are from a developing country then you can get a dispensation from paying the international rate. Notify the course coordinator that you are from a developing country before paying your fees.
